Scrapbooks are a fun way to show off your memories. You may not only use photos, but also concert tickets, love notes or drawings that hold a special place in your heart. This article will tell you what you need to know to create your first layout. I’ve outlined the steps below.
(1) Select your photos and categorize them to certain themes you may want to concentrate on when making a layout. You can start with momentous events like weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and other holiday themes or go with family trips or baby themes. Just make it a unified theme you can base layouts from.
(2) Hand scrapping entails purchasing cardstocks (papers of different weights, fibers, colors, finishes and textures), other background papers, acid-free pens, scissors, stickers, glue and rulers. You would also need some die cuts, which you can purchase at your local scrapbook store or just download some from the internet and manually cut them out. Choose paper and embellishments that compliment the photos you will be mounting and the theme of each page.
(3) Plan how you’re going to mount the different pieces on the layout. Use different textures and colors to make the page uniquely yours. A focal point, like the best picture in the bunch, would be ideal to make the page more engaging. Don’t forget to add some details that you’d like to be remembered with the other pieces you included. A short journal entry or even just a title, would do the trick. The items on the page will eventually lose their worth without a few words to tie them together. I like to place quotes, song lyrics or even random words that reflect how I feel looking at the entire layout or at the specific event from which all the stuff in the page were from.
(4) Fourth, add your embellishments. There are a whole lot of decorations you can use to make the page more attractive. I saw one decorated with painted macaroni one time. Think outside the box and use the different add-ons you have to bring life to the page. Just have fun with it. Each person has his own style so bring out your individuality through your layouts.
So you’ve done the whole book. What’s next? I believe there’s nothing left to do but show them off. There’s nothing more refreshing than reliving your memories, by sharing them with other people you care about. And scrapbooking is just the perfect way to do this.
